The Body Shop; Vitamin E Overnight Serum-in-Oil & Vitamin E Intense Moisture Cream Review

I've been curious to try The Body Shop's new Vitamin E Serum-in-Oil product, advertised as giving your skin an eight hour beauty cream. The product costs £12 on it's own, and whilst there I discovered this little goody bag containing both the oil and the Vitamin E Intense Moisturising Cream for just £16 - so of course, I went ahead and got the bag for the both of them :) I've been using both products daily for just over a week now, so read on for both my first impressions and to see how I feel they've been affecting my skin over the week.

Vitamin E Overnight Serum-In-Oil
First up is the serum-in-oil that was the reason I set off to The Body Shop in the first place! This product is described as an 8 hour beauty sleep for your skin and is supposed to replenish and recharge your skin overnight. I was really curious about how this product would work for me as I have a history of bad luck with overnight products and I hadn't tried any of the Vitamin E range before so was a little pessimistic about their claims!

First impressions were pretty positive; I'm apparently easily sold as I liked the cute bottle it comes in and thought it was a good size for the price - this is especially true when you start actually using the product, as you really don't need to use much of it at all, just a couple of drops is fine.

I'll be honest - I don't like how this feels when I first apply it. I'm normally okay with the feel of oil products but this one feels a little thick and greasy and I was very aware of it being on my face! However it does absorb into your skin pretty quickly, but I really do find myself being hyper aware of it at first and I just don't find it pleasant for some reason. Because it feels quite greasy I was also really worried that this would mean that I would wake up with a huge break out the next morning as I have very sensitive skin that freaks out over nothing so wasn't really sure how it would react to it - again, I have bad history of overnight products in general for this very reason!

However, it turns out I needn't have worried! I don't appear to have had a reaction at all to this product, and it has done wonders for my skin! Since day one I've been waking up with such lovely and soft feeling skin which has really impressed me, especially since my bedroom is absolutely freezing at night so normally I've been quite dry and flakey recently! It's felt lovely and smooth and I will confess to having woken up a few times and have my first reaction be to stroke my skin!

Overall I think this is a great product. My skin feels better already which is amazing considering the harsh conditions it's currently up against outside! I'm really pleased with how well this product has worked for me, I think it's a great price for the size (especially as I got 20% off with my body shop card!) and can definitely see myself continuing to use this product.

Vitamin E Intense Moisture Cream
I've been struggling with finding a good moisturiser for a while lately, as every single one I try seems to do something different to my skin. There are the ones that don't seem to do anything at all, the ones that immediately make me a giant shiny thing, and the ones that just feel so thick that I'm fully aware of them throughout the day! Honestly, this cream probably wouldn't have been my first choice for a new one to try, but as it came in such a good deal then I thought why not give it a go?

The body shop state that this cream locks in moisture for long lasting hydration, leaves skin feeling silky smooth and helps to restore skin's natural moisture barrier. I was a little worried at this as it is described as being specially formulated for really dry skin, and I was dreading ending the day with my face basically just being bathed in oil.

First impressions were actually very positive. The pot it quite small compared to other products I'm used to, but you really don't need to use a lot. It's a very smooth and creamy texture in a pretty pale pink, and it smells really good! There's something of a dreamlike scent to it that I find really relaxing. A little goes a long way with this product and it goes on easily, but in quite a focused way - this isn't a quick moisturiser to apply as it is quite thick, but easily flowing. It absorbs quickly and I didn't have to wait a long time before being able to put my makeup on, and I was very pleased to discover it didn't feel thick or invasive on my skin at all! I was also very pleased to discover that it didn't leave me shiny at all, at least no more than any over moisturiser does.

So far I'm really pleased with this product. It goes on easily and I feel my make up goes on nicely over it. Right now the weather is terrible with lots of cold and strong winds and I really do feel like this cream is defending my skin against it, as it still feels in good condition even at the end of the day.

Have you tried these products? If so, what did you think? Planning on buying them soon? Any favourites or disappointments from elsewhere in the Vitamin E range?

  1. i'm interested in trying this serum - i've read good reviews all round. i have so much skincare stuff to finish first though! x

    1. It's really good, I'm very happy with it - but I understand exactly what you mean! I'm really slow with getting through my products and something new I want always comes along!

  2. The serum sounds really lovely, definitely one I'd love to try out at some point soon once I've used up a couple of things in my skincare stash. Haven't been to The Body Shop for the longest time but I used to swear by their products!

    1. I'm the opposite - I never really cared much for it as I thought it was too expensive, but the Christmas sales made me see the error of my ways!

  3. I have heard some great reviews on the Vitamine E Serum Oil and i am so intrigued to give it a try. I absolutely adore the Vitamine E Tinted Moistriser so i think i would love the skincare to match :)

Thank you for sending your link over at #bbloggers chat, i am your newest follower :D

    1. I haven't looked into the tinted moisturiser yet - I've been thinking about giving one a try, perhaps that one will be the one for me!

Hooray! I'll check out yours when I get home as well :D

  4. I haven't heard of these before but they sound really good! Would be totally useful for my skin actually. I bought their Aloe Soothing Day & Night Creams but after I finish those I might give these a try! :)
