Restaurant Review: Darwin Brasserie and the Sky Garden

We recently took a trip to the Darwin Brasserie within the Sky Garden, located within the Walkie Talkie - or 20 Fenchurch Street if you want to use its proper name.

We were really pleased when we got up to the top and saw the view. I thought this photo even made it look a bit like a concept piece - but no, this is it completely unedited. Great view, and great landscaping to it as well - they really went more into the garden theme than I thought they would.

We didn't have starters as we thought they were too expensive, so I went straight to this lemon sole. It was absolutely delicious, I loved it!

Max went for a burger and chips, because he's going through a bit of a phase at the moment.

For pudding, we both went for a chocolate cake and both thought it was delicious as well.

Overall we really liked the Darwin Brasserie - the menu is a bit odd in terms of pricing. Some of it is more expensive than it should be, some is about what you'd expect to pay. The starters we thought were very steep, but the mains were pretty average for a new currently very popular restaurant. The food was all very good quality however, and we didn't feel ripped off. The cocktails are interesting and varied - we didn't like our cocktails but unfortunately went for the same one each (because it had dragon fruit in it, how cool is that!) so can't really compare it too much. We did feel they were quite expensive though!

The view from the brasserie and garden are great. It's nice to see the Shard directly in the middle in a different angle to how you normally see it and it's interesting to be able to look for your house and other landmarks. The garden itself is really well designed too - I genuinely expected to be disappointed by it but they've clearly put a lot of work into the garden and it's really nice to have a walk around it and definitely livens up the views as well.

I've heard a lot about this place, so it was nice to read a review! The pricing does sound odd, but I guess they can charge what they like with that view!
